A long-term bond in which the coupon payment is denominated in a currency different from the principal. For example, it could be a ten-year bond of $1,000 that pays 7% annually in German marks. The annual coupon is fixed at the exchange rate on the day of issuance. Companies decide to issue these securities to avoid or reduce currency fluctuations.
